Standaard diskette drive race wagentjes

zo als de title al zegt
als je een paar oude diskette drives heb kan je dit doen
dit heb je nodig
1 - 7805 Regulator IC
2 - assen
4 - wheels
1 - Floppy cabbel
1 - een kleine molex
1 - 9 volt battery
2 - floppy diskettes
4 - spdt switches




Step 1:

Cut 2 pieces of Brass, Copper or Tin strip about 3”x3/8” in size.






Step 2:

Fold each strip in half.


Step 3:

Drill a hole near the folded part of each strip for the axle.


Step 4:



Use two part epoxy to bond the folded strips to the front of the floppy drive.

Make sure that holes are an equal distance from the front of the drive and that the axle will be even with the center of the pulley.

Drill a hole on each side if the drive for the rear axle.






Step 5:



This is what it should look like from a side view.














Step 6:



Assemble a pulley from 2 diskette hubs. (Break the plastic covers off 2 disks and remove the hubs from the mylar disk)




Step 7:



Push the axle through one of the holes and push a rubber hose on to the axle before you push it through the second hole.






Step 8:



Push the rear axle into place.






Step 9:



Put 4 Wheels on the 2 Axles and Glue in place.


Step 10:





Place a length of rubber belt around the pulley and rubber hose and superglue the 2 ends together. (It might be better to determine the size of the belt and superglue before you place on the pulley)












Step 11:



Make power cable.






Power Cable

1. Cut a 3 1/2" power connector off of an old power supply
and leave as much wire as you can.

2. Cut the Red wire and insulation as shown.

3. Solder the 7805 regulator IC as shown.

4. Solder the Yellow wire to the female connector of the 9 volt connector
and solder the 2 black wire to the male connector.

5. Tape the solder joints to avoid shorts.

6. Finished Cable should look like the one shown.






Step 12:

Locate the 2 switches in the front of the drive and cut them off. (1 switch is the "open door" switch and the other is the "media type" switch.)

Make the Control Cable as shown on the right.










Control Cable

Use 2 conductor cable for the motor control. (Something like speaker wire or Cat 5)

1. Flip the drive over so you can see the solder connections of the 34 pin
connector. Locate pin 1/ 2 or 33/34 . Pins 1 thru 33 are all grounds and are
in the same row. Pins 2 thur 34 are signal pins and are in the same row.
When counting the pins it will be 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17,19,21,23,25,27,29,
31,33 of the same row. The other row will be 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,
24,26,28, 30,32,34


All Drives are not the same. Look at your drive

2. Locate pin 12 and solder a jumper wire to one of the
ground pins. (Shown Below)

3. Connect one conductor of your cable wire to pin 16 and the
other end to the center contact of a toggle switch.

4. Connect the other conductor of your wire to a ground pin
and the other end to the outside pin of the toggle switch.



Step 13:

Connect Cables to Floppy.
